Maw Goon Thit Migrant Learning Center

Maw Goon Thit Migrant Learning Center began in 2021 with a simple but powerful belief — every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of background or circumstance.

In Mae Sot, on the Thai-Myanmar border, many migrant children from Burma face significant barriers to formal schooling. Some are unable to enroll in public schools due to documentation or status issues. Others must help their families by working. Language barriers, financial hardship, and displacement add to the challenges. Witnessing this daily reality, we knew we had to act.

What began as a modest community learning space has grown steadily into a dedicated learning center. Today, we proudly serve students from Kindergarten all the way to Grade 12. This expansion is more than just about numbers—it represents growing hope, wider opportunities, and a clearer vision for the future of these children.

Our mission from day one has remained unchanged:

To create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where migrant children can learn, grow, thrive, and prepare confidently for their future.

We offer a solid foundation in core academic subjects: Myanmar language, English, Thai, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Yet true education at Maw Goon Thit extends far beyond textbooks. We emphasize holistic development through:

• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Digital literacy and basic computer skills
• Music, arts, and creative expression
• Leadership, teamwork, and essential life skills
• Character building, responsibility, and moral values

Our students are children of hardworking migrant families—families who endure tough conditions yet hold big dreams for their children's brighter tomorrow. Despite economic struggles, these young learners arrive at school each day filled with determination, curiosity, and courage.

The path hasn't been easy. We continue facing challenges like securing sustainable funding, upgrading facilities (including our school bus, playground improvements, and basic infrastructure), providing fair teacher support, and ensuring meals for students. But with unwavering dedication from our volunteer teachers, strong community spirit, and generous help from donors, friends, and partners around the world, we keep progressing step by step.

Maw Goon Thit is more than just a school.
It is a caring community.
It is a second home for many children.
It is a place where confidence takes root and dreams are gently nurtured.

From our humble start in 2021 to the growing center we are today—serving Kindergarten through Grade 12—our story is still unfolding. In 2026, we continue this journey with even greater resolve.

And we truly believe: the most inspiring chapters are yet to be written.
